With the music industry struggling overall for sales, 50 reflected on how personal brand extension is essential when previously it was frowned upon in Hip-Hop.“The technology is absolutely shifting things. The marketing dollars that the major companies would provide for artists in the past is gone with the actual record sales,” 50 explained. “This is taboo; this is almost like selling out. 5 years ago what is great business from an artist perspective now would be absolutely going in the other direction of what they think is cool.”ed hardy
As an innovator of the mixtape scene, 50 views piracy as a reality that should be embraced by artists.“I see it as part of the marketing. Because even the people who purchased the music from a pirating perspective end up at the concert. They can’t help but fall in love with the material at that point whether they consumed it from downloading it on the actual Internet or they went and purchased the material. We can’t stop it. If the major record companies could, they would.”
In The 50th Law, 50 and Greene hope to empower those who feel economically lost by the nation’s current recession.“We’re living through times where people are very frightened,”ed hardy Greene explained. “The message of the book is you need to move past that fear. Because in a couple of years this recession will be over, and will you be in a position to seize the moment? I think its going to be a new entrepreneurial era. Or are you just waiting on some job?”
Mogul 50 Cent made a recent appearance on MSNBC to speak about his success as a businessman and the release of his new book, The 50th Law.
Promoting the book with co-author Robert Greene, the Queens emcee first spoke on his staggering $100 million dollar profit as an original investor in Vitamin Water before its sale to Coca-Cola.“It’s an exciting deal. The opportunity to get in [during] the infant stages of that company was amazing for me,” 50 Cent stated. “It’s the biggest deal [for me].”ed hardy clothing
“And I think the majority of the companies who are the Fortune 500 were established during a recession,” 50 added. “The recession is predominantly for the middle class. Where I come from the majority of those people have always lived in a recession.”

Ed Hardy evokes the opposite of the “cool” culture

When I got my first Tattoo 20 years ago it was still considered not a very mainstream thing to do. I thought about my decision for almost a year before the ink settled under my skin for good. Looking back now, with nearly half my body decorated with art from at least 7 different professionals, my work tells the story of my life. My tattoos follow my trials and tribulations documenting my history and accomplishments. I literally wear my heart on my sleeve.
ed hardy evokes the opposite of the “cool” culture. The ones emptying their pockets to look like carnival rides are generally…well tools. The guys are muscle heads who’s idea of fun is a night at the local club complete with table service that screams “I have money - don’t you want me”. While the ladies outfits scream, “I’m easy and I date douche bags”. Like a neon sign, those like-minded individuals can come together and know exactly what to expect. The Sailor Jerry customer is probably found at the local dive bar, by the juke-box, cigarette in one hand, PBR in the other. The ladies, rock-a-billy hotness with style and flare that sets them apart.
Not everyone takes it so personal. A few years back when tattooing lost its taboo every cheerleader, housewife, accountant and kid with disposable income lined up for a little pain. The industry got smarter, the idea got popular, and the apparel industry got crafty.
This week at MAGIC I had an opportunity to see both lines represented for the retail fashion industry at large. Christian Audigier currently not only designs the atrocious ed hardy line but Crystal Rock, SMET, and more. He took over an entire corner of the trade show, roughly 37 individual booths along with his own personal runway and stage. Sailor Jerry had one booth…10′x 20′. Audigier simply does not have the ability to edit anything. Its astounding the amount of stuff he has managed to generate and decorate. Everything from computer accessories to Champagne, shoes to sunglasses, winter coats to underwear. Its gone too far. Sailor Jerry on the other hand has a delightful collection of cut and sew pieces, tattoo themed of course but not over the top and not a rhinestone among them. There is a small collection of handbags and accessories, and of course the Rum. But of the two brands, the customer couldn’t be further apart.ed hardy clothing

Ed Hardy is a dealbreaker

Ed Hardy aficionados, like Croc-heads and Vera Bradley owners before them, believe that their clothes are cool and unique and that the rest of us, who don’t think “love kills slowly” are too constrained by our boring sameness to appreciate the brilliance before us. But even Liberace would find the busy prints, neon colors and bedazzling on these items overwhelming.
Bottom Line: Ed Hardy is a dealbreaker. You approach me in a bar wearing an ed hardy shirt? You should walk away before you end up wearing my cocktail. If we’re dating and I find Ed Hardy in your closet? I’m suddenly single. Wander into work on casual Friday in an Ed Hardy tee and jeans? I have just lost all respect for you, your chances of promotion are greatly diminished. Even a Crocs wearer can be redeemed, but a person who chooses ed hardy clothing is beyond help.
Having lived in the Mid Atlantic for the last five years, my eyes have been spared the garish, tragically hip designs of Christian Audigier. But on a recent trip to California and Las Vegas, I was absolutely overwhelmed by the number of people bedecked in his ed hardy brand. It seemed that everywhere I went, whether it was a five star restaurant at the Venetian or a hot dog stand at the Santa Monica Pier, tattoo printed, Swarovski crystal covered clothing abounded.
The truly sad thing is that the faux-gothic urban hipsters wearing this trash think that it makes them look like hardcore dudes and edgy chicks. Because I know that when I see Swarovski encrusted roses, mermaids and winged angels; I cower in fear of their awesomeness. And I’m sure my friends at the local biker bar would feel the same way, why don’t you walk over there and ask them while wearing the jacket at left?
Together we felled the evil Crocs empire, and I know that if we put our minds to it we can stop Christian Audigier. We must work together to save America’s children from t-shirts adorned with winged skulls and misspellings, or else they will wind up vacationing on Guido Beach.

Ed Hardy/Christian Audigier

If there exists another brand-whoring duo worse or more offensive than this pair, I might have to gouge out my eyes and brain and offer them as sacrifice to the Satanic Lords that will have surely overrun our planet and neutered anything good, pure, happy and decent, as is their wont.
Until that time, we must make do with Hardy and Audigier, champions of a hair-gelled, fake-tanned culture that I want no part of. Well, that's not entirely true; I want something to do with that culture if I have a giant douche-bag seeking missile that will kill every last one of those idiots with clothing that's covered in tattoo designs.
Hardy: the man responsible for this mess
But before I get too lost in my own gaudy rhetoric, let's review: ed hardy is a crusty tattoo artist somehow revered by the masses for tattooing the shit out of stuff better than anyone else (sorry, Kat Von Whatever). His designs are all full of flaming skulls, half-naked women, and other shit adored by sailors and Marines on shore leave.
That's not the horrendous part, per se: it's the French asshole who latched onto his aesthetic and through repeated yard rape, has made it as ubiquitous as God, and about as idolized and annoying.ed hardy clothing
Christian Audigier, some designer (well, a designer who bought up everyone else's designs to market them as his own) of minor fame, already angered the universe once with his Von Dutch garbage (yeah, the trucker caps and short shorts adored by Pamela Anderson/Tommy Lee types), and has since brought ed hardy's tattoos into just about every industry possible. (Mercifully, Von Dutch is already dead -- their website says it all -- so I hold out hope for this latest piece of evil)

Ed Hardy brand was born

Ed Hardy on the other hand is out of control. Garish designer, Christian Audigier approached tattoo artist Don ed hardy in 2002 to license some of his original artwork. Ironically ed hardy clothingapprenticed under Sailor Jerry. Hardy was known for incorporating the Japanese aesthetic into his tattoo designs, think lots of tigers and geisha girls. Audigier had already proven himself capable of forming a lucrative brand with the launch of Von Dutch years earlier. Once the world got sick of seeing the words “Von Dutch” simply printed on everything imaginable at a premium he knew he had to expand his designs to include more versatile themes. Take the original tattoo designs, translate them to cover 85% of any given garment, add as much color and sparkle as the fabric can handle and the ed hardy brand was born.
Not everyone takes it so personal. A few years back when tattooing lost its taboo every cheerleader, housewife, accountant and kid with disposable income lined up for a little pain. The industry got smarter, the idea got popular, and the apparel industry got crafty.
Tattoo inspired clothing brand, Sailor Jerry celebrated its 10th Anniversary at MAGIC in Las Vegas this week. Complete with killer party featuring Sailor Jerry Rum drinks and a performance by the rock band The Raveonettes at local hot spot, Wasted Space in the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Sailor Jerry Collins is a real tattoo artist and legend. He’s famous for classic themes and his Flash art designs (sheets of drawings that allow other tattoo artists to do the exact artwork he originally created). He was the real deal, an actual Sailor who traveled the world, got bit by the tattoo bug, and landed in Honolulu where he proceeded to ink up one loner at a time. Therefore, a clothing line with his signature style, classic themes, designs and good old-fashioned quality seems right on the money. The person who sports a Sailor Jerry design has some knowledge of the authentic tradition of tattooing; has a little respect for the past and a little love for the art.
When I got my first Tattoo 20 years ago it was still considered not a very mainstream thing to do. I thought about my decision for almost a year before the ink settled under my skin for good. Ed Hardy aficionados

My eyes may never forgive me for the sartorial horrors they were subjected to on that vacation.

The overpriced, grown-up equivalent of Hot Topic, ed hardy clothing is the official clothing line of douchebags. Jon Gosselin: Need I say more?

The truly sad thing is that the faux-gothic urban hipsters wearing this trash think that it makes them look like hardcore dudes and edgy chicks. QLF with Ed Hardy?

We all the know the Ed Hardy t-shirt that every lower-lip-biting, True Religion-jean-wearing, orange fake tan douchebag wears as their Douchebag uniform.

Yes, Jon Gosselin takes his Ed Hardy Douchebaggery to the max with a long sleeved EH underneath his short sleeve EH.

And Hanna Montana's daddy sets the D-List celebrity standard with EH and his signature "hair patch" below his lip.
But suddenly, everywhere I turn, Ed Hardy is taking over the effing universe!
Glassware, napkins, and beer coozies!
While buying school supplies at Target, Baby Doll grabbed some ed hardy spirals and folders.

At Bed Bath and Beyond, bedding, bath towels, even toilette paper! You can wipe your ass with ed hardy clothing?
Hell, you can even SMELL like a douchebag, if you weren't naturally that way.

And what new mother doesn't want a DoucheBag diaper bag?

The last straw of ed hardy taking over the universe was yesterday at 7-11:

Hand sanitizer? Do you seriously expect me to believe I can cleanse myself of germs with that which DoucheBags are drenched in?
Jesus H. Christ!
Seriously.
Enough is enough! JUST SAY NO!
Editor's Note:
Sorry about the rant! I had to get this off my chest. Hope you all have a Zuper Fantastic Labor Day weekend planned! I have a 3 day fun packed weekend in store involving the new Dallas Cowboys stadium

Murguia: Join NCLR and the Drop Dobbs Campaign

Lou Dobbs, as a private citizen, has every right to speak at whatever event he pleases. As a representative of CNN's "best political news team in America," however, Dobbs' appearance at this rally provides FAIR the legitimacy of the CNN brand and signals an intensification of the lopsided coverage Dobbs has provided during the debate over immigration reform.ed hardy clothing

This should be of deep concern to CNN and every one of its advertisers. The credibility of all of their brands is at stake. The Drop Dobbs coalition is compiling a list of those advertisers supporting the Lou Dobbs show and will be reaching out to educate them about this issue. We recognize that many advertisers may be unaware that FAIR has been designated as a hate group, so we are contacting those companies before publicly releasing the list. However, unless and until Dobbs and CNN disassociate themselves from this hate group, we will be asking advertisers to withhold their support.

Join us online at the Drop Dobbs campaign and ask U.S. corporations to drop their advertising from the Lou Dobbs Tonight show. Together we can make a difference and bring accountability back to CNN.

NDN is a proud founding member of this important effort. If you haven't yet, please visit the site, DropDobbs.com, sign our petition and then ask others in your networks to do the same.
This Tuesday, my organization, the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), joined with several national advocacy organizations to launch the Drop Dobbs campaign, an appeal to advertisers to withhold their advertising support for CNN's Lou Dobbs Tonight program. We came to this decision in the wake of Dobbs' participation at an anti-immigrant rally in Washington, DC sponsored by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), an organization designated by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) as a hate group.ed hardy
For two years, I have tried working behind the scenes with CNN to bring some fairness to the relentless bias of CNN programming due to Dobbs' show. I have documented a litany of issues involving Lou Dobbs, including:

- His regular use of guests representing hate groups, vigilantes, and nativists as experts on immigration
- His relentless repetition of stories on immigrants and crime that project an impression far from reality
- His association of immigrants as carriers of disease that has been both inaccurate and pejorative

I have appeared on the Lou Dobbs show to ask him to curtail his bias and distance himself from the vigilantes and nativists who have appeared on his show. I have also partnered with CNN to address the levels of diversity before and behind the camera in hopes that this would help. CNN's disregard for Dobbs' alarming appearance at the hate group's rally this week has forced us to reconsider our behind-the-scenes approach.ed hardy

Words have consequences. The Latino community knows all too well the effect that extreme and polarizing rhetoric can have. Over the past five years, the often vitriolic debate surrounding immigration has created a toxic climate for our communities. During that time, we have seen a double digit increase in the number of hate crimes against Latinos and substantial growth in the number of hate groups targeting Latinos. As was illustrated less than one year ago by the murders of Marcelo Lucero and Jose Sucuzhanay, lives are literally at stake.
